Why/How did the Germans go to such legnths to destroy Britian's empire?
The Germans wanted to destroy Britians empire because that would give them all of the British colonies across the world. If Germany had all of this land they would be that much closer to world domination, which was what they wanted.
How was WWI a Global War?
World War One was a global war because Germany and Britian had colonies all over the world. This caused fighting in many different countries across the world including Europe, the Middle East, in the Pacific, and throughout Africa. With battles taking place in many different countries, WWI turned global.

The Blame Game
Although not many people agree with me, I believe that it is Russia's fault for the start of WWI. When you really look at the whole alliance system, it shows that the cause for everyone getting into the war was Russia. Ill explain; if Russia never declares war on A-H to back up Serbia, then Germany never jumps in to help out A-H. And then, by Germany not being in the war, France and Great Britian don't have to get involved because they only come in because of Germany being in the War. And to top everything off, Russia was the first to mobalize their troops. So bascially, without Russia in the war, it is a one-on-one fight between A-H and Serbia, and there wouldn't be a World War.

The Madagascar Plan
In the late 1930's the Nazis considered the idea of taking all of the Jews and forcing them to emigrate to Madagascar. Then in 1940, the plan started to take life. The plan involved moving four million Jews over the course of four years. Since Madagascar belonged to the French the Germans needed to create a peace treaty that involved the German control of Madagascar. Another thing that needed to happen was a German victory in the Battle of Britain so the German controlled British fleet could be used for transport. The plan fell apart because of the heavy resistance of the UK in the Battle of Britain, and because in 1942 French and British forces took complete control of Madagascar.
