So today in class we saw the movie clip where Hitler and Eva kill themselves. Theres a good clip from Family guy on the topic that I have included here. You guys should check out!

Holocaust Museum

I really enjoyed our field trip to the holocaust museum. All of the things that we got to see were really interesting. The model of the ghetto that showed how cramped all the people were was ridiculous. Also the case with the two shoes and the bowl really made me think about how those things actually belonged to someone that died. But I'd say my favorite was the art section. More specifically the picture with the glasses (above). I especially liked this one because of the way our guide explained it. She said that the holocaust took all of these innocent people and took away their identities. All they had was the number tattooed on their arm.  So i was thinking about this piece the rest of the time. Those were someones glasses, but because of the holocaust they are no longer a person; just a number. The glasses remain, but not the person behind them.

Ghetto

When I was in 8th grade we did a non-fiction reading section in literature class. I ended up reading a book about the ghettos that the jews lived in during World War two. It was awful what the jews had to go through. But one part of that book has stuck with me since I read it, and it is really disturbing. It talked about how a lady was holding an infant in her arms and it was crying. A nazi officer came by and told her to stop it from crying but it wouldn't. So he just ripped the baby from her arms and tossed it over the ghetto wall. Pretty nasty stuff.

Enemy at the Gates

This movie is great. I've seen it three times now and it keeps getting better. Vassili Zaitsev was one heck of a shot. But it is insane that the part from the beginning with all the Russian soldiers is accurate. The fact that they don't have sufficient supplies for their soldiers so one guy gets a rifle and and the guy behind him only gets bullets. And even worse than that, the generals order Russian soldiers, who try to retreat because they are highly outnumbered, to be killed by other Russian soldiers. Seems to me like Russia wasn't ready for a war at all. Nonetheless, Enemy at the Gates is one of my favorite war movies.
